Art Poster: All lost in their own thoughts, three diners sit quietly in the dim light of the evening in a road side diner. This portrayal of modern urban life as empty or lonely is a common theme throughout Hopper's work and Nighthawks is perhaps his most famous. Hopper began painting it immediately after the attack on Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941 which left a gloominess across the USA, this may have been the inspiration for this eerie painting. This piece of art has been inspirational to many other forms of media such as TV, being used in a number of parodies including sketches in The Simpsons.
