As the father of TV’s most dysfunctional family, The Simpsons, Homer is a blue-collar worker, who despite being an inept oaf is a caring and devoted husband and father and has attracted a worldwide fanbase. Based loosely on The Simpsons’ creator Matt Groening’s father, Homer became more of a focus of the show after the initial ‘Bartmania’ died down. Voiced by Dan Castellaneta, Homer’s voice was originally intended to be based on Walter Matthau, but eventually evolved into what it is today. His catchphrase “D’oh!” has become one of the most repeated phrases worldwide and is now included in the Oxford English Dictionary.
