Music Posters

Popartuk Knowledge Base

Music posters are becoming increasingly popular, and usually have images of a band or artist adorning them. They can vary from posters showing members of a band, such as the Pussycat Dolls and Justin Timberlake, which are popular in children's bedrooms, to posters displaying artwork and lyrics that are associated with the group.

Advertising posters also vary by scale. Posters are used to advertise major music festivals, such as Glastonbury or the Reading & Leeds festival, and are distributed in very large numbers across the country. Posters are also used on a smaller scale, sometimes in the form of flyers, which usually advertise local gigs, and can be posted in different parts of an area. Nearly all event posters include the group names and the order in which they are playing, commonly known as the line-up.

Some posters are highly sought after by collectors, such as previous festival posters where a historic event had taken place, or for other personal reasons. Many bands sell or give away posters at gigs and concerts, which make them

special for fans and are sought after by collectors, even more so if they have been signed by the artist. Avid collectors sometimes spend great amounts of money on private purchases or at auctions.

There are many iconic images that are used for posters, such as the Beatles' legendary Abbey Road album cover, which helped it become one of the most famous streets in the world and can be viewed here. Another iconic image is the Rolling Stones' Tongue logo, which is one of the most distinctive band logos in the history of Rock n' Roll.
