Animal Photography Poster: Carcharodon carcharias, or the great white shark, is an exceptionally large shark found in coastal surface waters in all the major oceans. The great white shark is the world’s largest known predatory fish, and the only known surviving species of its genus, Carcharodon. Reaching 6 metres (20ft) in length and weighing almost 2000 kg (4400lbs) the great white has been made famous in western culture thanks to Steven Spielberg’s 1976 hit film Jaws, based upon a novel by Peter Benchly, although in fact attacks on humans are thankfully rare.
