Coney Island, 1940, Poster
Brooklyn, New York City, USA

Size: 61x91.5 cm Poster
People Photography Poster: Known by the Native Americans as ‘Narrioch’, meaning ‘land without shadows’, thanks to its compass orientation which keeps its beach in the sunlight all day, Coney Island is the westernmost of the barrier islands of Long Island, New York. It used to be an island but construction work before World War II turned it into a peninsula. Part of Brooklyn, New York, Coney Island was a popular and major tourist resort and home to the Astroland Amusement Park, which can be seen in the background of this fantastic photograph, which shows Coney Island at its heyday. After World War II it declined in popularity and spend years in neglect, although the area is now undergoing revitalisation thanks in part to the construction of KeySpan Park baseball ground, home to the Brooklyn Cyclones.
