Footballers, 1952, Art Print

Art Print: Abstract footballers created by thick strokes of vibrantly coloured paint. While the Russian artist Nicolas De Stael was living in the South of France his art started to develop an opposition between abstraction and figurative; the son of Russian nobility, De Stael was born in St. Petersburg, but was brought up in Brussels, later he had a spell with the French Foreign Legion, a colourful life which ended when De Stael jumped from the window of his studio on the 14th March, 1955.
