Bosch's real name is Jeroen Van Aeken, but always signed his paintings Hieronymus Bosch, from the name of the town he came from ' Hertogenbosch ', Bosch meaning ' the wood ' & Hertog ' of the Duke ', this was a usual practice for artists in the 14th & 15th Century.
